Makadaya Impact Center Hosts Makadaya Market Day: Celebrating Social Entrepreneurship and Sustainability

Bali (10/9) – The newly launched Makadaya Impact Center in Ubud, Bali, recently hosted its “Makadaya Market Day” on September 6-7, 2024, featuring an Impact Product Marketplace, demo day presentations from social entrepreneurs, and interactive community discussions.
The event marked a soft opening of the center and provided a platform to highlight Bali’s growing social impact ecosystem.
The two-day event showcased products and services from various social enterprises specializing in sustainable fashion, waste upcycling, community agriculture, and eco-friendly products.
The first day event kicked off with the ‘Makadaya Fellows Demo Day,’ where five founders  from Makadaya Fellowship’s 2023 batch presented their social enterprise initiatives.
The fellows presented a range of innovative ideas, from Siti Nur Seha’s collagen-based beauty products to Yohana Tamara’s agroforestry project with Kalara Borneo. Each founder shared how their ventures are addressing pressing environmental and social issues while empowering local communities.

A highlight of the day 1 event was the ‘Ngiring Mebanjar’ panel discussion, where representatives from various social organizations discussed the importance of fostering collaboration within Bali’s social impact ecosystem. Speakers included:
Each panelist had their own take regarding the idea of “mebanjar” and what it means to them. However across all panelist, a central idea to the concept of “mebanjar” is also community and collaboration. 
Each speaker took the stage to share what they perceive to be the biggest challenges on collaboration.
Visitors also had the opportunity to engage in DIY workshops, ranging from pottery making to upcycling clothes into crochet accessories. These activities were designed to encourage creativity and sustainable practices, with sessions open to people of all ages.
As the Makadaya Impact Center continues to grow, it aims to be a hub for social entrepreneurs and organizations across Bali and beyond. The success of the Market Day event signals a bright future for collaborative initiatives focused on sustainability and social impact.
